FULTON SCIENCE ACADEMY PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS
LEARNED ABOUT STORMWATER
USING A STORMWATER FLOODPLAIN SIMULATION SYSTEM
Terry Porter, environmental educator for the City of Alpharetta, visited 6th and 7th grade science classes on Thursday bringing a new Stormwater Floodplain Simulation System that the city recently acquired. In fact, Fulton Science Academy Private School is only the second school in North Fulton to use this simulation system model.
This hands-on, simulation model clearly demonstrates the critical role of floodplains and how development within the watershed can impact stormwater runoff and flooding within the watershed and floodplain areas.
Students performed a variety of realistic experiments involving floodwaters and the damages that may follow.
