Annual Social Studies Fair


FSA ANNUAL SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR 

On Friday, December 7th FSA held its annual Social Studies Fair. The projects on display were selected from each social studies class and showed a wide range of subjects across the different social science disciplines.

From the 24 projects that made it to the FSA school fair, one has been selected to represent FSA at the Georgia Social Studies Fair this spring: sixth grader Christian Lane with his project, “How did the discovery of gold affect the Cherokee Indians?”

On behalf of Mrs. Bragg, Mrs. Campbell, and Mr. Stiffler, thank you to all of the students that participated in the Social Studies Fair this year. There were so many excellent projects, making the selection process for FSA representatives particularly difficult. Congratulations to all of our students and best of luck to those that will participate in the state fair early next semester.

Georgia Aquarium Trip


FSA STUDENTS ENJOYED A WONDERFUL TRIP TO GEORGIA AQUARIUM 

On Tuesday, December 4th, the FSA Middle School students and teachers traveled down to the Georgia Aquarium for a day filled with aquatic investigation and discovery! They participated in the Instructor-Led Program titled “Sharks In-Depth” in the Education Loop.  Everyone enjoyed a backstage tour, hands-on experiences, and focused learning opportunities all about sharks!

Students also viewed a 3-D movie, the “Dolphin Tale” show, and had unlimited access to the aquarium.  Students split up into groups of 9-10 with their Group Leaders and explored the exhibits, the play area, and the touch tanks.  One of the most popular (and more recently opened) exhibits was “Frogs-A Chorus of Colors.” Students examined the visually stunning live frogs, activated recorded frog calls, and enjoyed operating a simulated frog dissection booth.

Great Results at American Math Competition 8


GREAT RESULTS AT AMERICAN MATH COMPETITION (AMC 8)

The AMC 8 is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. Over 150,000 students with very high Math skills attend AMC annually. This year, 10 FSA students received recognition at this challenging competition:

Best Robot Performance Award


FSA ROBOTICS TEAM WON  "BEST ROBOT PERFORMANCE AWARD"

This year, we have three robotics team competing at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics Competition. One of these three teams, ROBODINOMITE competed this past Saturday, December 8th at the Georgia Official Qualifying Tournament. Our team not only won 3rd place and qualified to compete at the Super Regionals but also won "Best Robot Performance Award". Our team includes following students: Joseph Pederson, Gwyneth O'Sullivan, Eemil Harkonen, Hakan Aktas, Ali Aktas, Fatih Aktas, and Yusuf Tas. Comgratulations to these students, their families and our coach, Mr. Kaya for this wonderful acheivement. We wish them success at the Super Regional Competition on January 12, 2013 at Clayton State University. Two other FSA Robotic Teams will be competing at the Georgia Official Qualifying Tournament this weekend. We wish them success as well. Please see pictures from the competition below:

Fulton Science Academy Robotics

As their competition date approaches, FSA Robotics Club students spent a good part of Saturday and Sunday at our school this past week finishing their websites, presentations, robot design and programming. We wish these students all the best at First Lego League Competitions this Saturday and Next Saturday. Please see some picture from this weekend's study below:

K9 UNIT PRESENTATION


ALPHARETTA K9 UNIT GAVE A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION TO FSA STUDENTS

Alpharetta K9 Unit Officer Mike Schulman with his partner Lekso visited us today and gave a wonderful presentation about daily durties of K-9 unit. We enjoyed two seperate assemblies with presentations geared to specific grade levels both in elementary and middle.  All FSA students experienced what the K-9 unit dogs are capable of doing at work through fascinating demonstrations. FSA students thanked officer Schulman by presenting him a nice choclate box. At the end of day, Officer Schulman brought more dogs and did a training for K-9 unit at our school. After being a training location for many heroes of our community including Fire Marshalls, SWAT Team, Medics and Police Officers, we are very pleased to host the training of K-9 unit at our school as well.
