FSAPS FAMILIES ENJOYED 3RD ANNUAL CULTURAL CAFE

FSAPS families enjoyed delicious food from around the world, visited booths about different countries and enjoyed the student performances yesterday during our 3rd Annual Cultural Cafe. A big THANK YOU goes to all volunteers.

SCHOOL DANCE WAS LOTS OF FUN!

Our school dance was a huge success! A big THANK YOU goes to all parent volunteers for this wonderful event. Our students loved it.

FSAPS KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES HAD A LOVELY TIME AT THEIR SWEETHEART BREAKFAST

The Kindergarten students had a wonderful time on Friday, February 13th coming together for a day filled with LOVE-ly Valentine’s Day activities. Students participated in Valentine’s Day themed activities in their classroom, created Valentine's Day mailboxes to deliver special treats to their Kindergarten friends, and had a BLAST at the Elementary School Dance.

The biggest hit of the day though was bright and early in the morning from 7:55 am until 9:15 am. Kindergarten held their 2nd Annual Kindergarten Sweetheart Breakfast! The Kindergarten teachers hosted a breakfast for all of the sweet parents in the cafeteria. Ms. Przedpelski, Mrs. Irshadullah, and Ms. Fichter scrambled eggs, served yummy waffles made to order, and provided a few other breakfast favorites such as bagels, muffins, cream cheese, yogurts, pastries, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee, tea, etc. A delicious way to start the day and fun fellowship for all! We are so lucky to have such sweet families with us at FSAPS and the Kindergarten teachers were so happy to honor their sweet families for Valentine's Day.

FULTON SCIENCE ACADEMY CYBER SCHOOL DAY

Please see two pictures from our recent Cyber School Day. :) Please send your cyber school day pictures to Principal Sener. They will be published on our Facebook page. It is great to see FSAPS students making a good use of their time even during snow days.

PRE-K & KINDERGARTEN PUZZLE CLUB

Did you know that puzzle club provides on-the-job training? Recent studies have shown that young children who regularly play with puzzles develop better spatial skills. This is primarily due to the simultaneous use of both sides of the brain which occurs when connecting pieces of a puzzle together. The analytical left brain hemisphere logically sorts all of the separate pieces of the puzzle. The creative right brain hemisphere works intuitively and sees the “big picture." By exercising both sides of the brain at the same time, young children develop the ability to mentally manipulate shapes. Having the ability to mentally transform shapes and envision the outcome is an important predictor of achievement in STEM related hobbies and ultimately careers later in life. Just look at the fun these students are having while training for future careers in medicine, engineering, architecture, and science!

1ST GRADE STUDENTS ENJOYED TELLUS MUSEUM VISIT

First grade students had a terrific time at the Galactic Weather exhibit of the Tellus Science Museum! Students have been studying weather at FSA, and this was a perfect hands-on review for us! We explored weather instruments, discussed types of clouds, and talked about weather on other planets. Students were also able to explore a few of the museum galleries!

The pictures below show students experimenting with the effects of different mirrors, using weather instruments, and using a cloud viewer.

TURKISH CLUB PREPARES FOR SOUTHEAST TURKISH OLYMPIAD

In Turkish Olympiad Club, all students are so excited for counting down for Turkish Olympiads. This year Turkish Olympiad will be held in Jacksonville on Saturday, February 28th. We will be participating in singing and poetry categories this year. Speaking contest will be on April 25th in Jacksonville as well.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD STUDENTS ENJOYS EXTENDED STUDIES

Mrs. Ayer's Science Olympiad Team enjoys their extended coaching session on Mondays from 4.30pm till 6.00pm. Students have chance to spend more time on their events and work as a team and they enjoy pizza parties at the end. As a result of students' hard work, our straw tower can hold more than 500grams and our straw bridge is 90cm long (it should be more than 72cm). A big thank you goes to Mrs. Kafalas and Mrs. Patel for bringing in Donuts and Pizza.

ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ENJOY SPANISH CLASSES

¡Hola de la clase Español! Second semester Spanish is off to a great start! Students are learning how to use correct gender and plural formation when adding adjectives to nouns and their articles. It's so exciting to see students master this concept and apply these rules with previous vocabulary. Students are now starting to put the pieces together and communicate using simple sentences. Parents, please encourage your child to teach you Spanish at home!

In our cultural studies, we are moving on from the Aztecs and slipping back in time to the highly advanced Mayans. We are learning about their very complex three-part calendar system which was more accurate than any calendar used in the Western world during the 1800's when it was first discovered. The Mayans as well as the Aztec did not possess metal tools nor did they use metal within their artwork other than gold and silver sparingly in their jewelry and other adornments. Just like their temples and pyramids, most of their carvings were made primarily of stone. Wood and jade were also used to carve intricate figures depicting their various mythological Gods.

Obviously, carving into stone or jade is not an option for my classes, so students in all grades are making various embossing relief patterns in thick layers of tin to create beautiful renditions of both Aztec designs and Mayan calendar symbols. Students have really outdone themselves! Look for these stunning works or art to be on display next week! ¡Hasta pronto!

STUDENTS AND PARENTS ENJOYED CYBER SAFETY PRESENTATION

We were happy to have Detective Laurie Nicholson and officer Allen from the Alpharetta Police Department talk with our 4ththrough 8th graders about cyber safety. Your child’s safety, of course, is a major concern of ours. Please take the time to talk with your child about what they learned.

Some things that we should remember:
· Be careful who you are “friends” with online. Unless you personally know the person you are communicating with online, you don’t know for certain who they are.
· Be careful what you put on the internet, you can never get it back. Don’t share any personal information online or inappropriate pictures.
· Always show and tell your parents or an adult if inappropriate words or pictures are sent to you.

We are always looking for ways to improve the safety at FSA, including our technology and internet usage. Each of our middle school students has been issued a school iPad. We plan to begin random checks on the iPads. We will be looking for anything inappropriate on the iPad itself and in the history of internet usage.
